If you’re in the market for a feature-rich golf watch but at an affordable price then the brand new Shot Scope G5 GPS might just be exactly what you’re looking for. Retailing at only £149.99, the G5 is ready to use straight out of the box with no set-up required (aside from connecting the strap), and has been specifically designed to be easy to use and look great both on and off the golf course.
Build your own golf watch
In keeping with the recently released Shot Scope X5 golf watch, the G5 is lightweight at only 42g and has a premium look and feel thanks to its modern and sleek rounded face and colourful straps. Shot Scope’s brand new ‘Build Your Watch’ service allows you to customise the look of your G5 by selecting either a grey or black watch case and two quick-release straps from a wide range of 12 colours – meaning you can match your watch with your outfits both on and off the golf course.
If you’d like to have a go at designing your very own G5 then visit the Build Your Watch page of the Shot Scope website.
Now, let’s talk about the G5’s key features.
The G5's key features
The G5 comes pre-loaded with over 36,000 golf courses worldwide and can be used straight out of the box (once you’ve attached the strap), although should you wish to update the device’s firmware or your course maps then you’ll need to download the Shot Scope mobile app and register for an account in order to be able to do so.
The daylight-readable colour screen displays dynamic yardages to the front/middle/back of the hole you are currently playing, which can be increased in size thanks to the new easily readable Large Digit Display mode – perfect for quickly glancing at those yardages.
In addition to GPS information to the front, middle and back of the green, the G5 also provides distance and location information for hazards on the hole you are playing, as well as layup points and doglegs. And, if you want to see how far you hit your last shot or show off to your friends then the Last Shot Tracker has you covered.
Finally, if like me you always forget to grab a scorecard before you play, that should no longer be a problem thanks to the G5’s built-in digital scorecard feature which allows you to manually keep track of your score as you play. Your current score to par will be displayed on the screen but this can be turned off if you prefer not to know your score until the end of your round.
As the screen is not a touch screen like on the X5 watch, navigation and menu selection is done using the four buttons located on the outside of the watch casing, which should make the watch really straightforward and easy to use.
Finally, in terms of battery life, Shot Scope has suggested that the G5 watch will be able to last 10+ days in general watch mode and for 2+ rounds in golf mode, and the watch comes with a 2 year warranty as standard.
