Product Overview and Design
If you’re in the market for a feature-packed GPS golf watch, then the brand new Shot Scope G5 GPS golf watch might just be what you’re looking for. Retailing at only £149, the G5 is ready to be used straight out of the box with no setup required and it has been designed to look good and perform well both on and off of the golf course. In keeping with the recently released Shot Scope X5, the G5 is lightweight and weighs only 42 grams. It’s also been designed to have a sleek and modern look thanks to its round watch casing and colorful straps. Shot Scope’s brand new ‘Build Your Watch’ service allows you to customize the look of your G5 when you’re purchasing it. This service allows you to choose either a black or gray watch casing and then select two quick release straps from a selection of 12 different colors, meaning that you can match your watch with your outfit both on or off the golf course. If you’re interested in having a go at building your own Shot Scope G5, I’ve put a direct product link in the description below and also included a promo code in there, which depending when you watch this video, may or may not get you an extra 15% off of your purchase.
Key Features and Functionality
Now let’s talk about the watch’s key features. The Shot Scope G5 comes pre-loaded with over 36,000 golf courses. However, if you are looking to update the firmware or update the course maps for your device, then you will need to download the Shot Scope mobile app and register for an account before you can do either of those things. The daylight readable color screen allows you to view dynamic yardages to the front, middle, and back of the green on the hole you are currently playing. And thanks to the brand new large digit display mode, you can make those values even bigger in terms of appearance, which is perfect if you just want to quickly glance at those yardages. In addition to the GPS information to the front, middle, and back of the green on the hole you are playing, the G5 also provides you with hazard information on the hole you’re playing, as well as layup yardages and dog legs. And if you want to see how far you hit a shot or show off your friends, the last shot tracker has you covered. If like me, you’re somebody who sometimes forgets to grab a scorecard before you head out for your round, the good news is the G5 has an inbuilt digital scorecard. This allows you to enter your score manually after each hole and will show a cumulative score to par on the watch’s display as you play. If you’re interested in using this feature but don’t want it displayed on the screen, it can also be disabled. As the screen of the G5 is not a touch screen like the X5, menu navigation and selection is done using the four buttons on the outer casing of the watch, which should make it easy and straightforward to use.
Battery and Warranty
In terms of battery life, Shot Scope suggested the G5 should be able to last over 10 days when used as a day-to-day watch and for at least two rounds when used in GPS mode on the golf course. The watch also comes with a two-year warranty. If you have any initial thoughts or questions about the G5, drop them in the comments here below. And if you’re interested in testing out the ‘Build Your Watch’ feature for the G5, remember there’s a direct link in the description below alongside my promotional code. Build your own golf watch
In keeping with the recently released Shot Scope X5 golf watch, the G5 is lightweight at only 42g and has a premium look and feel thanks to its modern and sleek rounded face and colourful straps. In addition to GPS information to the front, middle and back of the green, the G5 also provides distance and location information for hazards on the hole you are playing, as well as layup points and doglegs. And, if you want to see how far you hit your last shot or show off to your friends then the Last Shot Tracker has you covered.
Finally, if like me you always forget to grab a scorecard before you play, that should no longer be a problem thanks to the G5’s built-in digital scorecard feature which allows you to manually keep track of your score as you play. Your current score to par will be displayed on the screen but this can be turned off if you prefer not to know your score until the end of your round.
As the screen is not a touch screen like on the X5 watch, navigation and menu selection is done using the four buttons located on the outside of the watch casing, which should make the watch really straightforward and easy to use.
Finally, in terms of battery life, Shot Scope has suggested that the G5 watch will be able to last 10+ days in general watch mode and for 2+ rounds in golf mode, and the watch comes with a 2 year warranty as standard.
I’d love to know what your thoughts on the Shot Scope G5 are so be sure to drop them in the comments area below, alongside any questions you may have about this new watch.
